Many years ago, shortly after leaving university and moving down to Bristol for a new job - and needing to build a new social life - I started taking evening "life" classes taught by Dave Paskett Smith (later a president of the Royal Watercolour Society) and I discovered that I could draw. After a long gap I took it up again after retirement, mostly at the local Stroud Life Drawing drop-in sessions, led by Keith Symmonds.
Life drawing is one of the hardest artistic disciplines to master because there is nowhere to hide: we can all recognise when representations do not give the impression of "life".
